Tag/Day 4.5 auf der/on WESTERDAM in Ålesund, Norway

Falls jemand sich an die Interzonen-Züge erinnert: Sechs fuhren im Abteil im Verkehr zwischen Ost und West und acht, wenn die Waggons innerhalb der DDR fuhren. Ich hatte so den Eindruck, dass wegen der Reservierung von ursprünglich 4 x 2-er Tischen statt 1 x 8 Tischen bei diesem Tisch improvisiert wurde. Nicht ganz so wie auf der MSC FANTASIA, aber der 8-er Tisch im Canaletto am Abend zuvor, war ein echter 8-er Tisch, bei dem wir wirklich viel Platz links und rechts hatten. Das war, aber das einzige, was an diesem Abend nicht stimmte.



If someone remembered the trains between the former East and West Germany: Six were accomodated in one compartment if the train goes from East to West and if the cars were used within East Germany than eight passengers were accomodated in a compartment. I had the impression as Seattle booked 4 x tables for 2 instead of one table of 8 so they made it somehow possible that we could sit together. It was not so bad like on MSC FANTASIA and we had a true table for 8 the night before in Canaletto where we really had a lot of room right and left. But this was really the only thing what was not proper the night.

If you ask for a German menu you need a lot of space left and right as you had to turn over the menu to the left and the right.



Wenn man um eine deutsche Karte bittet, braucht man nämlich sehr viel Platz links und rechts, weil man sie nach links und rechts aufklappen muss.

Wir waren auf der letzten Eltern-Kreuzfahrt von den Spießen im Portofino auf der NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS sehr begeistert. Deswegen kamen die Fragen, ob es solche Spieße auch im Pinnacle Grill geben würde. Wir meinten eigentlich nein, da sonst einer von uns sie bestimmt schon genommen hätte. Das Portofino ist ja wie das Canaletto ein italienisches Restaurant und da haben unsere Eltern natürlich ein vergleichbares Angebot vermisst.



We were very excited on the skewers of the Portofino Restaurant on our last parents' cruise on NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS. So we got the requests if they could get such skewers as well in the Pinnacle Grill. We said no as none of us had them before. Somehow they were disappointed to miss this offer in the Canaletto Restaurant as both restaraunts are Italian Style.

But some must read the RCI-Blog and now they were on the menu and so had luck and no further discussion with our parents.



Aber da hat wohl jemand im RCI-Blog nachgelesen und sie stehen auf der Karte und ersparen uns die Diskussionen mit unseren Eltern.

Die anderen Sachen kennen wir schon von früher.



The other offers we knew from previous cruises.

Nicer than the menus it would be to present the raw pieces of meat under the glass like then on EURODAM. But like in Chops Grille on Royal Caribbean this was abolished. Sorry.



Schöner als die Speisekarte wäre es gewesen, wenn man die rohen Fleischstücke wieder unter Glas vorgestellt hätte, wie damals auf der EURODAM. Aber das wurde leider wie bei Chops Grille bei Royal Caribbean wieder abgeschafft. Schade.

Bei den Vorspeisen sind mir Neuerungen eh egal... wir bestellen sowieso immer wieder das gleiche.



With the starters I was not very worried about changes... as we always order the same thing.

I was very surprised to find the butter in sauce boats.



Komisch nur, wie die Butter serviert wird: in Saucieren.

Auf den anderen Tischen wird nämlich die Butter serviert wie früher auf der EURODAM.



On all other tables they serve the butter the way we knew from EURODAM.

They must read that I always to "take by mistake" such a little silver bell cover with the butter with me and so to prevent that this might happen they did not use it at our table. Also on MSC FANTASIA they took a lot of attention for this little covers...



Sie müssen doch gelesen haben, dass ich immer mal die Silberglöckchen mit der Butter "irrtümlich mitnehmen" wollte und haben wohl präventiv an unserem Tisch sie schon nicht eingesetzt... Auch bei der MSC FANTASIA hatten sie damals gut aufgepasst...





Should this be our lobster bisque??? Just for us ready on a big soup plate???



Ist das unsere Hummercremesuppe??? Extra für uns auf dem großen Teller schon fertig zubereitet???

Sie müssen wohl im EURODAM-Blog gelesen haben, dass wir die Löffel nicht richtig identifiziert haben und damals irrtümlich den Dekolöffel zum Essen genutzt haben und uns über die Tiefe der Schalen wunderten...



They must read in the EURODAM-Blog that we did not identified the different spoons and used the spoor for decoration purposed to eat the soup and were wondered that the spoons did not fit to the depth of the bowls.

And pepper service is still part of the total service. Wonderful!!!



Der Pfefferservice ist immer noch Teil des Gesamtservices. Wunderbar!!!

Und ich stelle beim Ansehen der alten Bilder fest: hier im Pinnacle Grill wurde noch nicht ein Shrimp eingespart, wie im Cagney's Steakhouse bei NCL...



Checking my old pictures I found out that they did not start in the Pinnacle Grill with the cost savings by reducing a shrimp like in Cagney's Steakhouse on NCL.

Coke Zero was also available instead of Diet Coke but not with the Soda Pass as this was only available in cans. Very good was the crispy flat bread and need ask for some more.



Es gibt auch Coke Zero statt Coke Light, aber nicht mit dem Soda Pass, da nur in Dose verfügbar. Ganz lecker ist das knusprige Fladenbrot, bei dem wir um Nachschlag bitten.

Das wurde noch nicht wieder abgeschafft: Der Cesar's Salad wird am Tisch zubereitet.



This service has not not been withdrawn: They still prepare the Cesar's Salad at the table.

Each single salad for each single guest as I wanted to have some anchovies while Bruno did not like them. But if they ask if they should put two drops of Tabasco: tell them just one. They forgot to tell: Indonesian drops are not the same size like European drops...



Jeder Salat für jeden Gast einzeln, da ich beispielsweise den Salat mit Sardinen wollte und Bruno ohne. Wenn sie fragen, ob sie zwei Tropfen Tabasco reinmachen sollen: sagt lieber einen Tropfen. Sie vergessen zu erwähnen, dass indonesische Tropfen nicht die gleiche Größe haben wie europäische Tropfen.









This "show" secured the approval from our parents to book ZAANDAM in 2012.

Phantastic: just the show is worth to pay the cover charge.



Fantastisch: alleine für die Show lohnt sich die Zuzahlung.

Herr Pannen war über die Nudeln mit Hummer begeistert.



Mr Pannen was very happy with his noodles with lobster.

You get lobster here in Pinnacle Grill without paying an additional cover charge to the cover charge like with NCL.



Hummer bekommt man hier im Pinnacle Grill ohne Zuzahlung auf die Zuzahlung wie bei NCL.

Nur der Land and Sea sah etwas anders aus, als auf der EURODAM.



Only the Land and Sea looked not same way we had on EURODAM.

This should be a serious reason to see the Hotel Manager and discuss with him... or??? So why were the shrimps on WESTERDAM not upright on the Filet Mignon like on WESTERDAM???



Das wäre eigentlich wieder ein ernsthafter Grund den Hotel Manager aufzusuchen, um das mit ihm auszudiskutieren... oder??? Warum stehen also auf der WESTERDAM die Shrimps nicht aufrecht auf dem Filet Mignon???

Filet Mignon gab es noch in zwei alternativen Formen: als Burger oder als Spieß. Das ist mein Spieß... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... besser als S... (nur für Erwachsene!).



You could have Filet Mignon in two further styles: as burger or as skewer. That was my skewer... yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummy... better than s... (only for adults!).

The next table they were flaming something too. But we could not identify it. But for those who do not like to invest to buy Carnival shares: Pinnacle Grill. You just do not pay for any food you but for an eventful experience for eyes, nose and palate!!! How much I liked to see the Pinnacle Grill for lunch... but they did not let us in... what a pity!!!



Am Nachbartisch wird auch flambiert. Leider können wir sehen, was konkret. Also die beste Investition, wenn man das Geld nicht in Carnival-Aktien stecken möchte: Pinnacle Grill. Ihr zahlt nicht für bloß für ein beliebiges Essen, sondern für ein Erlebnis für Augen, Nase und Gaumen!!! Wie gerne hätte ich den Pinnacle Grill mittags aufgesucht... aber da sind wir ja nicht reingelassen worden... schade!

30 Minuten benötigt die Zubereitung der Souffles. Präventiv bestellen wir zwei zum Teilen.



They need 30 minutes to prepare the Soufflés. Just for prevention we ordered two to share.





Irgendwie kann ich mich nicht daran erinnern, dass der Baked Alaska am Tisch flambiert wurde, obwohl wir ihn schon auf der EURODAM schon hatten.



Somehow I could not remember that Baked Alaska was flamed at the table although we had it already on EURODAM.







Everybody was so excited... For a future event a photo proof: Mrs Pannen had a Baked Alaska too.



Alle sind begeistert... Das ist übrigens für ein späteres Ereignis der Fotobeweis: Auch Frau Pannen hatte eine Baked Alaska.

Wir hatten zuvor Schwierigkeiten an Bord einen Obstbrand zu bestellen. Hier sehen wir die Flasche Kirschwasser (Es hätte aber auch Schladerer sein dürfen...). Also gibt es den doch an Bord, aber wohl nicht an den Bars. Als ich später Walter frage, meint er, dass es ihn an allen Bars geben müsste. Wir sollen das nächste Mal aber nach Poire Williams fragen, wenn wir einen Williams Christ wollen.



We had before some problems to get some fruit spirits. Here we see one bottle of Kirschwasser (cherry spirit - but it could be also one of the best from Schladerer, Black Forrest, Germany). So they had some on board but not at all bars. We asked Walter later and he said that it sould be available on all bars. Next time we should ask for Poire Williams.



On EURODAM the upper tier was full of chocolate...



Damals auf der EURODAM war die obere Lage noch mit Pralinen gefüllt...

Und jetzt waren sie auf der WESTERDAM der Meinung, dass wir genug gegessen haben und es gibt nichts... Nein - man sieht es: die Pralinen haben sie auf mehreren Schälchen verteilt, damit alle gut drankommen. Aber das hätte man auch mit zwei Sets erreichen können, da wir so auch alle besser an Zucker und Milch gekommen wären.



But here on WESTERDAM they wanted to tell us that we had enough food and there would no more... No - you can see: the put the chocolate into several little plates so everybody had a good access to them. But you can also deliver two of the sets so everybody would have a better access to the sugar and milk as well.

There was no guest book like on EURODAM otherwise I would put this picture inside. This was total full satisfaction. I hope to have a chance to get them back into the Vista-Main Dining Room without too much trouble.



Leider gab es kein Gästebuch, wie auf der EURODAM, sonst würde ich dieses Bild reintun. Wir waren rundum zufrieden. Hoffentlich bekomme ich die anderen überhaupt wieder ohne Ärger in das Vista-Hauptrestaurant rein...
