Tag/Day 3.6 auf der/on RYNDAM in Korfu-Stadt/Corfu-City, Greece

Für 10,00 EUR (2013) nehmen wir ein Taxi zurück. Es wird nämlich immer windiger und die Wolken immer grauer. Und angesichts der Menschenmassen in der Altstadt wollten wir lieber zurück an Bord.



For 10.00 EUR (2013) we took a cab back to the ship. It became more windy and the clouds became more grey. And due to the mass of people in the Old Town we wanted to head back to the ship.

Well... our cabdriver made it a little more comfortable for him and drove immediately to the taxi line to get new guests. Other cabdriver released their guests in front of the cruise terminal.



Tja... unser Taxifahrer hatte es sich bequem gemacht, und ist direkt in die Taxischlange gefahren, um neue Gäste anzuwerben. Andere Taxifahrer setzen die Gäste direkt vor dem Kreuzfahrtterminal ab.

Dort findet nämlich die Sicherheitskontrolle statt.



There you had the security check.

And of course you can buy souvenirs and duty free. You can buy water for few cents.



Und natürlich gibt es hier noch Souvenirs und einen Duty Free Shop. Wasser kann man hier für Cent-Beträge kaufen.

Wegen des aufkommenden Windes werden die Tenderboote verschlossen. Und mit Erreichen des Tenderbootes fängt es an zu regnen.



Because of the arising winds they closed the tender boats. And just when we arrived at the tenderboat it started to rain.

We need multiple attempts before the boat could berth a way we could leave. But they need to secure the boats additionally.



Wir benötigen mehrere Anläufe bevor das Boot so anlegt, dass wir aussteigen können. Die Boote müssen aber zusätzlich gesichert werden.

An der Fahne sieht man, wie der Wind nun bläst.



You could see with the flags how windy it was.

Here onboard you could get a cold towel.



Hier an Bord gibt es erst Mal ein kaltes Handtuch.

Und dann geht der Regen los.



And then the rain started.

That "sucks" (Sorry!) with Holland America: At 14.00 hrs they close the Lido Buffet. For us at 13.45 hrs it meant that we had to pack fully our plates as we would not have a chance to go a second round. Even in the night they close the buffet at 20.00 hrs.



Was mich bei Holland America wirklich "ankotzt" (Sorry!): Um 14.00 Uhr wird das Lido Büffet geschlossen. Für uns bedeutet das um 13.45 Uhr, dass wir uns alles vollpacken müssen, da wir keine 2. Chance haben, nochmals uns zu bedienen. Auch abends wird das Büffet um 20.00 Uhr geschlossen.





Lediglich die Desserttheke bleibt offen. Man bekommt auch nach 14.00 Uhr noch Sandwiches und anderes. Verhungern muss man also nicht.



Only the dessert part stayed open. You could get after 14.00 hrs some sandwiches and few things more. So you must not die on hunger.



O.K. Es gibt Semmelknödel.



O.K. They had Grandmother's Bread Dumplings (typical Bavarian/Austrian food).

But what should fit with it:



Nur was soll dazu passen:

das Züricher Kalbsgeschnetzeltes, der Backfisch oder das Haxenragout?



Veal Zurich Style, Fried Fish or Braised Pork Shank?

Each of them was very tasty. But it did not fit to the dumpling. We asked later the Executive Chef (with Autrian roots) and we were only told: that this was a decision of Seattle and his influence was very limited.



Alles schmeckte für sich sehr gut. Nur passte es zu dem Semmelknödel nicht. Wir hatten mal Tage später den Chefkoch (mit österreichischen Wurzeln) angesprochen: da hieß es lapidar: das ist eine Entscheidung von Seattle und er hätte wenig Einfluss darauf.

14.00 Uhr.

We went back to our cabin to read some "newspaper".



Uns zieht es in die Kabine um "Zeitung" zu lesen.

Außerdem müssen wir uns schon seelisch auf das Abendessen vorbereiten.



Furthermore we need to prepare mentally ourselves for dinner.

Bruno had to cut a caper by disposing the needles from the flowers in the soap.



Bruno hat wie üblich nur Dummheiten im Kopf... in der Seife hat er kurzerhand die Nadeln der Blumen entsorgt...

Wir hatten zwischenzeitlich mit Ruben gesprochen und in der Tat konnten die Techniker etwas für uns tun: Wenn man nämlich die Klimaanlage über die heiße Zone hinausdreht wird die Klimaanalage abgestellt. Und nur noch eine minimale Luftumwälzung findet statt. Man muss fragen! Sie tun ihr bestes, damit man sich an Bord wohlfühlt.



Meanwhile we had a word with Ruben and indeed his technicians could do something for: if you turn the air-condition beyond the hot zone you can turn off the air-condition. So you had a minimum air circulation in the cabin. You must ask! They do their best that you feel comfortable onboard.

Bruno hat taped more areas of the air outlet.



Bruno hatte zwischenzeitlich noch mehr abgedeckt.

Unsere Schuhe sind zurück.



Our shoes are back.

Such a great form for the return of the shoes we never got before.



So ein tolles Formular für die Rückgabe der Schuhe haben wir bislang noch nie gesehen.

Und nun ging es richtig los mit dem Regen!



Now the real rain started - dogs and cats!

In the rear it looked now a little better.



Hinten sieht es wieder besser aus.

Und nach und nach werden die Tenderboote wieder aufgenommen.



One by one the tenderboats were moved back to the ship.



Wir gehen uns mal informieren... Es sind an verschiedenen Orten des Schiffes diese Bildschirme aufgestellt.



We went to get some information... You find on multiple spots around the ship these screens.

Hotel Director... Cornelius von Santen... And yesterday I got a letter from Kees van Santen... Already the 3rd Hotel Director on board - Did I occur such a high abrasion? Brothers? Later someone explained that Cornelius and Kees were no multiple personalities but Kees is the popular Dutch short form of Cornelius like in English Dick of Richard or Bill of William.



Hotel Director... Cornelius van Santen... Und gestern gab es einen Brief von Kees van Santen... Der 3. Kreuzfahrtdirektor an Bord - ist mein Verschleiß so groß? Brüder? Hinterher wird erläutert, dass Cornelius und Kees keine gespaltene Persönlichkeiten sind, sondern Kees die umgangssprachliche Abkürzung von Cornelius ist, so wie im englischen Dick von Richard oder Bill von William.

Ruben ist doch nicht von Bord gegangen, sondern steht unter Culinary Operations Manager. Später wird uns erklärt, dass er im Moment eine Doppelrolle hat. Deswegen schwitzt er wohl Blut und Wasser... Aber offen gesagt: Er hat einen Job gemacht!



Ruben did not leave the ship but could be found as Culinary Operations Manager. Later we were told that he had actually a double function. That was maybe why he was on a a cold sweat... But honestly spoken: he did agreat job!

And Franz Schaunig was our Executive Chef from Austria. We had later the occasion to be introduced but as his influence was obviously very limited we need to post few questions to Seattle.



Und Franz Schaunig aus Österreich ist der Chefkoch hier an Bord. Später wird er uns mal kurz vorgestellt, aber wenn er sowieso nur begrenzten Einfluss hat, müssen wir wohl mal ein paar Kleinigkeiten in Seattle nachfragen, die uns interessieren.
