Seetag/Day at Sea 2 auf der/on EURODAM

Um 06:00 Uhr früh fange ich an, das Schiff für mich zu entdecken. Um 07:00 Uhr fange ich für mich, "Walk a Mile" zu entdecken. Alles was ich früher nicht leisten konnte, kann ich auf einmal neu leisten. Ich gefalle mir selbst im neuen Körper und bin stolz darauf, dass ich freiwillig eben laufe. Ich gehe weiter und es gibt jetzt eben nicht nur von der EURODAM, sondern mit der EURODAM.



At 06:00 hrs my day began to discover the ship. At 07:00 hrs I started to discover "Walk a Mile" for myself. Everything I was unable to perform before I was able now not perform. I liked my new body, and I was proud of myself that I was walking voluntarily. I headed on walking and so there are not any pictures of EURODAM but with EURODAM.

Um 07:00 Uhr bin ich am verabredeten Ort. Mit der Gruppe hat es auch sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Dragana hat uns super animiert. Und speziell MEINE Fan-Gruppe: Michael, Erik und Paul. Die saßen auf der Bank und haben ein bisschen frische Luft geschnappt. Und jedes Mal, wenn wir vorbeikamen haben die uns zugejubelt, freundlich begrüßt und so getan, als ob wir gerade einen Marathon laufen würden. Sie waren einfach klasse. Aber genau das ist etwas, was ich bei Holland America (und Norwegian) besonders schätze: die sind irgendwie anders drauf und die Herzlichkeit und Freundlichkeit ist intensiver und zieht vom kleinen Seemann bis zum Kapitän. Bei anderen stimmt sie zwar im direkten Kundenkontakt, aber manchmal wird man einfach ignoriert, selbst wenn man als Gast als erster grüßt. So setze ich mich gerne zu Michael, Erik und Paul um ein gemeinsames Selfie zu machen. Sie sind Teil meiner schönen Erinnerungen an diese Fahrt.



At 07:00 hrs I arrived at the appointed place. With the group, I had a lot of fun. Dragana animated us very well. And especially MY fan-group did: Micheal, Erik and Paul. They sat on the bank and had some fresh air, and they cheered, greeted me friendly and acted like I would have a Marathon-run. They were just great. And this was exactly what I loved with Holland America (and Norwegian) very much: they are different, and the cordiality and friendliness are more intensive from the small sailors to the Captain. With others, it is alright with the direct guest contacts, but sometimes they just ignore it when you as guest greet first. So I sat with Michael, Erik, and Paul to have a selfie with them. They are part of my great memories of this voyage.

I am not a big fan of breakfast. But with Holland America. The menu was very classical. I loved the International breakfast menu and was looking forward to my Japanese breakfast. Bruno got his hard boiled eggs although the way they served, it was quite unusual for Central Europeans. But he got his fresh berries and his kiwi which were not part of the menu and his blueberry muffin - the very best of the seas. Rudi walked for Bruno an extra mile.



Ich bin kein besonderer Freund vom Frühstück. Außer bei Holland America. Die Karte ist einfach klasse. Ich liebe die internationale Frühstückskarte und freue mich schon jetzt auf mein japanisches Frühstück. Bruno bekommt wieder seine hart-gekochten Eier, wobei die Form, wie es serviert ist doch für uns Mitteleuropäer etwas ungewohnt. Aber er bekommt seine frischen Beeren und seine Kiwi, die nicht auf der Karte stehen und seinen Blueberry Muffin - dem besten auf dem Meer. Rudi ist für Bruno die Extrameile gelaufen.

Mal gucken, was wir im Lido SB-Restaurant verpasst haben.

The colored tongues had a unique background: they were replaced regularly to reduce the spread out of virus and germs etc.. At this time all tongues were green.



Die farblichen Zangen haben einen Hintergrund: Sie werden regelmäßig gewechselt, um die Ausbreitung von Viren, Bakterien usw. zu reduzieren. Im Moment sind daher alle Zangen grün.

Die Egg Benedict Auswahl ist einfach bei Holland America unübertroffen.

Aber eben mit herzlicher und freundlicher Bedienung macht mir das Frühstücken noch mehr Spaß.

Anyhow I had friends also at the front desk my joy and friends.



Auf jeden Fall habe ich an der Rezeption auch meine Freude und Freunde.

Ray, Lovely, Spencer und Gesa (perfekter deutschsprachiger Service!!!) sorgen dafür, dass kein Wunsch unerfüllt bleibt. Das Wort "Nein" erlebt man eigentlich sehr sehr selten im Sprachgebrauch auf Holland America Schiffen.



Ray, Lovely, Spencer and Gesa (perfect German-speaking service!!!) made sure that none of my requests remained unattended. The word "no" you will not hear very rarely someone on Holland America ships saying the word "no".

And anyone who said again that it was stiff on Holland America ships was wrong as you can see here.



Und wer noch mal behauptet, dass es auf Holland America Schiffen steif zugeht, irrt sich gewaltig, wie man hier sieht.

Ich hatte das Meet and Greet von cruisecritic.com angemeldet. Es hatten sich doch bis zu 25 angemeldet.

In the Crow's Nest, everything was set for us.



Im Crow's Nest ist alles schon für uns dekoriert.



Unfortunately nobody else of cruisecritic.com showed up. Later when I told the others, they claimed that I did not send any reminder letters (fees applicable). After CELEBRITY MILLENIUM I did not like to have any private tours anymore with total strangers and did not offer anymore any tours in public. For sure I will never ever apply for a Meet and Greet. I did not like anymore. It is too much waste of time.



Leider kommt kein anderer von cruisecritic.com. Hinterher als ich es anmerke, wird mir der Vorwurf gemacht, dass ich keine Erinnerungschreiben (kostenpflichtig) bestellt hätte. Nach der CELEBRITY MILLENIUM habe ich keine Lust mehr auf Ausflüge mit vollkommen unbekannten und biete keine Touren mehr öffentlich an. Und seit jetzt werde ich garantiert auch kein Meet and Greet mehr anmelden. Ich habe die Lust verloren. Dafür ist mir die Zeit zu schade.

Die hier versammelten Offiziere nehmen es jedoch mit Humor und so machen wir ein tolles gemeinsames Selfie: Beverage Manager Murat Kajat, Culinary Operations Manager Norbert Kovacs, Hoteldirektor Don Habets, Guest Relations Manager Liesbeth Soors, Kreuzfahrtdirektor Dave Shea, Event Manager Mark Beasley und Kapitän John Scott. Ganz ehrlich: ich hätte damit gerechnet nach dem Eklat im nächsten Hafen rausgesetzt zu werden. Es entwickelte sich jedoch komplett anders. Und ich kann schon vorweg sagen: die ganze Reise war so gut, dass wir kurz nach der Reise noch die Fahrt von Amsterdam nach Civitavecchia auf der KONINGSDAM gebucht haben, weil wir einfach mal länger als 7 Nächte HAL genießen wollen und ein paar Seetage mehr auf HAL wollen. Und um es vorweg zunehmen: Hoffentlich ist Don auch an Bord - es könnte sein, dass er zum Zeitpunkt unserer Reise wieder von Bord ist. Das wäre sehr schade. Manchen sagen ja, dass es besser für mich persönlich läuft, als für andere Gäste, weil ich nicht so ganz "normal" bin, Aber hier muss ich sagen, dass es besser läuft, weil es dieses großartige Team gab, und alle Gäste profitierten. Nur eines war schade: ich hatte das Bild sofort auf die Facebook-Chronik von Holland America hochgeladen. Aber es wurde sofort gelöscht. Auch wenn man loben will: nur ohne Nachnamen aus Datenschutzgründen.



The here assembled officers took it with fun and so we made a very nice common selfie: Beverage Manager Murat Kajat, Culinary Operations Manager Norbert Kovacs, Hotel Manager Don Habets, Guest Relations Manager Liesbeth Soors, Cruise Director Dave Shea, Event Manager Mark Beasley and Captain John Scott. Honest spoken: I thought that they would drop me off the next port after this disaster. But it developed totally different. And I could say now: the whole voyage was so good that we booked right after this voyage our next voyage KONINGSDAM from Amsterdam to Civitavecchia because we want to enjoy longer than 7 nights and want some more days at sea. Beforehand I need to say: we hoped that also Don would be again on board - might be that he might be off at the time we would be on board. This would be very sad. Some always say that it worked better for me personally but for other guests, because I am not such a "standard" guest. But here I need to say that it worked better since they had an excellent team for the benefits of all guests. One less nice item: I uploaded this great picture in the Facebook Chronic of Holland America. But it was erased immediately. Even you wanted to praise: only without last names due to data protection reasons.

For my comfort, I need some snacks which were offered free of charge at the coffee bar.

Ich werde angerufen, um mit mir die Geburtstagsfeier von Sigi durchzusprechen.



I was called to discuss the birthday party for Sigi.

They advertised for Le Cirque. Once per week, you do not have anymore the regular Pinnacle Grill menu but the Le Cirque.



Le Cirque wird beworben. Einmal die Woche gibt es nicht das normale Pinnacle Grill Menü, sondern eben Le Cirque.

Wir haben es damals auf der ZAANDAM mitgemacht und ganz ehrlich: ich mag das reguläre Pinnacle Grill Menü lieber.



We did then on ZAANDAM but honestly: I like the regular menu of Piannacle Grill more.

Luckily the New Year's Eve was a regular Pinnacle Grill night.



Zum Glück ist der Silvesterabend ein regulärer Pinnacle Grill Abend.

Damit ich auch daran teilnehmen kann, wird für mich ein besonderes Menü vorbereitet.



To enable my participation a special menu was prepared for me.

So we went again for lunch to the main dining room. Today everything was decorated with an Indonesian touch. Due to historical reasons, there was a special relationship between the Netherlands and Indonesia. We experienced a superb service again by Imam Hadi and Reggie and magnificent food.



So geht es für uns wieder ins Hauptrestaurant zum Mittagessen. Heute ist alles indonesisch eingehaucht. Durch die Historie gibt es ja zwischen den Niederlanden und Indonesien eine besondere Verbundenheit. Wir erleben wieder einen Superservice durch Imam Hadi und Reggie und natürlich ein Superessen.

Kaum sind wir an Bord, wollen sie uns auch schon direkt loswerden. Hier wird nicht deckweise ausgeschifft, sondern die Gäste werden befragt, wann und wie sie ausschiffen wollen. Das Tagesprogramm bekommen wir in Englisch und Deutsch. Außerdem werden wir darauf hingewiesen, dass beim Kabinenfrühstück evtl. zu Staus kommen kann. Den Türstopper muss ich mir mal auch besorgen. Die Handtücher für einen Strandaufenthalt an Land sind ebenfalls vorbereitet. Perfektionismus pur, wie ich ihn gerne erlebe.



Barely we arrived on they wanted to have us off again. Here you were not debarked deck by deck, but the guests were interviewed to find out when and how they would like to debark. We got the daily programme in English and in German. Furthermore, they told us that we might expect congestion in case we might want to use the in-room breakfast service. I need to get me a door stopper like this. The towels for a shoreside beach stay were prepared for us. Perfectionism I really like to experience.

And we had a lot of luck with our cabin steward Bangun.



Und mit unserem Kabinensteward Bangun haben wir ebenfalls sehr viel Glück.

Nach dem tollen Meet and Greet folgt die zweitwichtigste Veranstaltung des Tages: Royal Dutch High Tea mit Königinnen Pastete, die hoffentlich nicht abgeschafft wird, weil sie ja jetzt einen König in den Niederlanden haben. Aber hier geben sie sich immer sehr viel Mühe. Die Veranstaltung gibt es auch nur an den Seetagen und ist ein besonderer Höhepunkt für mich.



After the great Meet and Greet the second most important event of the day: Royal Dutch High Tea with Vol au Vent (in German Queens' Pasties) and I genuinely hope that they will not withdraw this offer since they have a King now in the Netherlands. But here they spent a lot of efforts. They had these events only on days at sea and were a particular highlight for me.

With Holland America, they had fixed dining or flexible dining. Either as walk-in or with a reservation. We had a reservation and so we could go directly to the queue for reserved tables. Formal nights meant that jackets were required for men. And they even kept jackets to let for those guests who traveled without a jacket. Apart from that on every night: great food, excellent service, and great waiters: today it was Tata and Henry.



Bei Holland America gibt es noch die feste Tischzeit oder flexible Tischzeit. Entweder als Walk-In oder mit Reservierung. Wir haben reserviert und können daher direkt in die Schlange mit Reservierungen. Formeller Abend bedeutet dass für Herren Jacketzwang ist. Und es werden auch Leihjackets an der Rezeption für diejenigen bereitgehalten, die ohne Jacket angereist sind. Ansonsten wie an jedem Abend: tolles Essen und toller Service und tolle Kellner: Heute sind es Tata und Henry.

Ein Kapitänsempfang findet bei Holland America auch nicht mehr statt. Stattdessen gibt es ein Captain's Toast vor der Show, bei denen der Kapitän seine leitende Offiziere vorstellt und geben von der Bühne aus den Gästen zuprostet.



A Captain's Reception you do not have anymore with Holland America. Instead, you had the so-called Captains' Toast before the show starts. Here the Captain introduced his senior officers and had a toast to their guests from the stage.

Imperceptibly Cruise Director Dave took us to the production show. You could feel that HAL did want to have anymore the senior-resident image without waiving seniors as guests. I liked the show very much.



Kreuzfahrtdirektor Dave führt uns nathlos über zur Production Show. Man merkt schon, dass HAL weg will vom Seniorenheim-Image ohne auf die Senioren als Gäste zu verzichten. Ich mag auf jeden Fall die Show.

Leider ist es so, dass Sigi einen "schlechten" Einfluss auf mich hat. Ich erwische mich dabei, wie ich abends an einer Bar "versumpfe". Aber eigentlich versumpfe ich ja schon seit der QUEEN MARY 2 im November 2014 und da war Sigi ja nicht mit dabei. Insgesamt geht aber wieder ein toller Tag zu Ende. Wer braucht eigentlich Landgänge, wenn es man so tolle Seetage erleben kann?



Unfortunately it was fact that Sigi had a "bad influence" to me. I caught myself how I "stagnate" all the nights at a bar. But honestly, I stagnate at the bars since my voyage on QUEEN MARY 2 in November 2014 and Sigi was not with me. Wrapped up a great day came to an end. Who need to have shore days when you can have such great days at sea?
