Seetag/Day at Sea 04 auf der/on OOSTERDAM

Auf zum "Walk A Mile". Als ich aus der Tür zur Promenade rauskomme bietet sich mir ein tolles Bild: Ein Crew Mitglied teilt die gleiche Leidenschaft: die tollen Bilder des Horizonts und der Morgendämmerung einfangen. Ich kann nicht anders und muss das fotografieren. Die Runden genieße ich: mit jeder Minute wird es heller und schöner. Und dann kommt der erste Sonnenaufgang. Sehr schön: "meine" Rettungsboote. Ich hatte ja die Mitarbeiter von Hatecke auf der REGAL PRINCESS 2022 kennengelernt und ich musste deren Hoodie unbedingt haben.



On to the "Walk A Mile". As I step out the door to the promenade, an incredible sight is presented: a crew member shares the same passion: capturing great pictures of the horizon and the dawn. I can't help it and have to take a picture of it. I enjoy the laps: every minute, it gets brighter and more beautiful. And then comes the first sunrise. Very lovely: "my" lifeboats. I had met the Hatecke employees on REGAL PRINCESS 2022 and had to have their hoodies.

I'll take a look at the location of our cabin. Directly above lifeboat 9. Very practical if we ever get into distress: we can transfer directly to the lifeboat from our balcony. I still remember the rigorous sea rescue exercises under the respective lifeboats. And woe to one of the guests who wasn't quiet and made a call...



Ich gucke mir mal die Lage unserer Kabine an. Direkt überhalb des Rettungsbootes 9. Sehr praktisch, wenn wir mal in Seenot geraten: dann können wir direkt aus unserem Balkon direkt ins Rettungsboot umsteigen. Ich errinere mich noch an die strengen Seenotrettungsübungen, die unter dem jeweiligen Rettungsbooten stattfanden. Und wehe einer der Gäste war nicht ruhig und hat telefoniert...







Vanja looks at my Hatecke hoodie: "Cruise is calling" - "And I am ready 24/7". She presses "accept" for me. Then I'm asked if I'm Mr. Yao. Budi sends me greetings from WESTERDAM. There is an old friend from NCL times: Mahmut. He has already briefed Budi: His friends are also Budi's friends. I ask him if the best way to do that is with our bottles with screwable mouthpieces or our jugs: whether we can fill them directly under the water dispenser. He says this only leads to discussions with other guests who wait to see it and that we don't have any problems for hygienic reasons. We should give it to a crew member, and they would fill it up for us. However, the crew fills up their jugs the same as we would fill them up. By the way, this is very practical with the Tupperware jug. I'm also going here this morning for a portion of congee from Mr. Congee (we're not sure yet whether he's Mr. Congee or I'm Mr. Congee): Fadhil.



Vanja sieht sich mein Hoodie von Hatecke an: "Cruise is calling" - "And I am ready 24/7". Sie drückt für mich auf "Annehmen". Dann werde ich angesprochen, ob ich Mr. Yao bin. Budi richtet mir Grüße von der WESTERDAM aus. Dort ist ein alter Freund aus NCL-Zeiten: Mahmut. Er hat Budi bereits gebrieft: Seine Freunde sind auch Budi's Freunde. Ich frage ihn, wie wir das am Besten machen mit unseren Flaschen mit abschraubbaren Mundstücken oder unseren Krügen: ob wir sie direkt unter dem Wasserspender abfüllen können. Er sagt, dass das nur zu Diskussionen mit anderen Gästen führt, die das nicht sofort sehen, dass bei uns aus hygienischen Gründen keine Probleme gebe. Wir sollen es einfach einem Crewmitglied geben und sie würden uns das auffüllen. Wobei die Crew füllt ihre Krüge nicht anders auf, als wir sie auffüllen würden. Mit dem Tupperware-Krug ist das übrigens sehr praktisch. Ich gehe auch heute morgen hier eine Portion Congee bei Mr. Congee (wir sind uns noch nicht einig, ob er Mr. Congee ist oder ich Mr. Congee bin) essen: Fadhil.

Es wird auch mal Zeit unsere zwei guten Seelen unserer Kabine abzufangen und zu fotografieren: Tiyo und Han. Alles immer Tip Top. Wir gucken uns mal die Speisekarte des Kabinenservices an. Hier würde es sich notfalls auch aushalten lassen.

I'm putting on my "dam ships" t-shirt today, which I've had since my first trip on EURODAM 2008. Since then, I have lost 25 kg. Unfortunately, the T-shirt is no longer available. And so I have to put on the "mini-dress". I'm happy to meet other guests whose "dam ships" t-shirts are still sacred. She would also like to buy a current one. Otherwise, I'm so glad about guests like the fellow traveler who always looks like in the TV series "Walker, Texas Ranger". And later, when I walk past the shops and see Caroline and Zubair together, I have to take a selfie with them.



Ich ziehe heute mein "dam ships"-T-Shirt an, dass ich seit meiner allerersten Reise auf der EURODAM 2008 habe. Seit dem habe ich 25 kg abgenommen. Leider gibt es das T-Shirt nicht mehr. Und so muss ich eben das "Mini-Kleid" anziehen. Ich freue mich, dass ich auch andere Gäste treffe, denen auch deren "dam ships"-T-Shirt noch heilig ist. Sie würde sich auch gerne ein aktuelles kaufen. Ansonsten freue ich mich aber über Gäste wie den Mitreisenden der immer aussieht wie in der Fernsehserie "Walker, Texas Ranger". Und als ich später an den Geschäften vorbeilaufe und Caroline und Zubair gemeinsam sehe, muss ich auch mal ein gemeinsames Selfie mit ihnen machen.

Ich freue mich immer, wenn mich das Team um Vanja begrüßt: Jenny, Monica und Christa. Dann startet immer der Tag sehr schön. Da ich schon Congee hatte, nehme ich kurzerhand das europäische Frühstück. Nur der Hering hätte nicht sein müssen. Ich baue mir halt meinen Uitsmijters selbst.



I'm always happy when Vanja's team greets me: Jenny, Monica, and Christa. Then the day always starts very nicely. Since I already had congee, I took the European breakfast without further ado. Only the herring didn't have to be. I just built my Uitsmijters myself.

It's a beautiful day outside, which I spend mostly on the balcony or later on the open deck.



Draußen ist ein wunderschöner Tag, den ich größtenteils auf dem Balkon verbringe oder auch später nochmals auf dem offenen Deck.

Mittags treffen wir uns zum Mittagessen mit Gilbert und Martin. Sie bringen den Kuchen von gestern Abend im Pinnacle Grill. Martin hatte Geburtstag. Er erwähnt, dass er kein Ständchen bekam. Wieder mit Bitte, Danke, Lächeln, Schokolade und Trinkgeld lässt sich dieser Wunsch erfüllen, dass man ein indonesisches Geburtstagsständchen erhält.



At noon we meet Gilbert and Martin for lunch. They're bringing last night's cake to the Pinnacle Grill. It was Martin's birthday, and he said he wasn't serenaded. Again with please, thank you, smile, chocolate, and tip, this wish can be fulfilled that you receive an Indonesian birthday song.

I'm already expected in the Explorations Café: Jessica tells me: my lactose-free milk is here. Classy. Calvin quickly learned of my special requests, and I also discovered the list of cold drinks. So we feel very comfortable here very quickly. Otherwise, we also feel delighted with the guys from the Friends of Dorothy group.



Ich werde schon im Explorations Café erwartet: Jessica teilt mir mit: meine laktosefreie Milch ist da. Klasse. Calvin lernt schnell meine Sonderwünsche. Außerdem habe ich die Liste der Kaltgetränke entdeckt. So fühlen wir uns hier sehr schnell sehr wohl. Ansonsten fühlen wir uns auch mit den Jungs aus der Friends of Dorothy-Runde sehr wohl.

Sehr schade: obwohl immer noch beworben, obwohl gar nicht mehr im Angebot: Die Programme von BBC Planet Earth und BBC Blue Planet.

Wir gehen mit einigen der Jungs zu der Show Evolution Motown. Musik von Motown ist immer eine sichere Bank, um das Publikum zum Kochen zu bringen. Das gelingt der Band auch sehr gut. Man sieht, dass alle ihren Spaß haben. Das Publikum macht mit und hat sichtlich Spaß. Zum Glück gibt es hierzu eine 2. Show noch. Ich lerne später auch Joe von der Band kennen.



We're going to the Evolution Motown show with some of the guys. Motown music is always a safe bet to get audiences to heat up, and the band does that well. Everyone is having fun, and the audience joins in and enjoys it. Luckily there is a second show for this. I also get to know Joe from the band later on.

Now one of the great stories on board that will remain unforgettable begins. We tried again to get a table at the Canaletto as a walk-in. Again no. Everything booked. But tonight, it's Saltimbocca, and I don't want to wait a week for Saltimbocca again. I offer: if I get a table tomorrow, I'll pay today, and they should put a portion of Saltimbocca in the fridge, and I'll eat it tomorrow. Maître Hazel doesn't want that: the food quality would suffer, and it wouldn't taste as good. Without further ado, Hazel offers that I could have a big table if I don't mind it being more significant. I do not mind. I ask how many fit at the table. In my Friends of Dorothy group, I found five more who would occupy the table. So we filled 7 out of 8 places. And that was a win-win situation for everyone: I got my Saltimbocca and friendly company, and Hazel got more sales. But something goes wrong: the Bellini is not served with peach puree but syrup. The bar team is a bit helpless. Then comes Hazel's highly professional effort. She comes with a fresh glass of Bellini, which also looks like a glass of Bellini. We ask what she did. AT THIS POINT, ALL SENIOR OFFICERS AND STAFF AT HAL HEADQUARTERS MUST STOP READING!!! I don't want Hazel to be fired, but the story is too good! She says, "I got a peach out of the galley and squeezed it between my thighs!". Seven men are silent. One of them (me) doesn't manage to have the last word on it. Yours sincerely. It happens extremely rarely!!! And then everyone (guests and crew) laughs together, and tears come from laughter. This is how you deal with complaints from guests. This is where I want to spend my 25th anniversary: people with a sense of humor who make me laugh and laugh with me. That's exactly what I want! I am immediately rebooking my table from the Pinnacle Grill to the Canaletto. However, we don't manage to share our food because it's too tasty. I decide not to give anything! But it gets "worse"! Our waitress is called Friscania. And my colleague in Frankfurt is called Friska. Both laugh the same way. So this time, they didn't send a container like on the last trip on QUEEN VICTORIA 2022, but the laughter of my employee. We have a great time: with the other guys from the Friends of Dorothy group, but also with the crew: Hazel, Liz, Friscania, and Mark. A lovely evening comes to an end. The fall of the West begins Italian dolce vita on a Dutch-American ship. Like back then on VEENDAM 2019.



Jetzt beginnt einer der tollen Geschichten an Bord, die unvergesslich bleiben. Wir haben jetzt wieder probiert als Walk-Ins einen Tisch im Canaletto zu bekommen. Wieder nein. Alles ausgebucht. Aber heute Abend gibt es Saltimbocca und ich will nicht eine Woche warten, bis es wieder Saltimbocca gibt. Ich biete an: wenn ich morgen einen Tisch bekomme, zahle ich heute und sie sollen mir eine Portion Saltimbocca in den Kühlschrank stellen und ich esse es morgen. Das will Maître Hazel nicht: Darunter würde die Qualität des Essens leiden und das würde nicht mehr so gut schmecken. Kurzerhand bietet mir Hazel an, dass ich einen großen Tisch haben könnte, falls es mir nichts ausmacht, dass er eben größer sei. Mir macht es nichts aus. Ich frage nach, wieviele an den Tisch passen. In meiner Friends of Dorothy-Runde finde ich noch fünf, die den Tisch mit besetzen würden. Also haben wir 7 von 8 Plätzen besetzt. Und das war die Win-Win-Situation für alle: Ich bekomme mein Saltimbocca und nette Gesellschaft und Hazel mehr Umsatz. Dann geht aber etwas schief: Der Bellini wird nicht mit Pfirsisch-Pürree, sondern mit Sirup serviert. Das Bar-Team ist etwas hilflos. Dann kommt Hazels hochprofessioneller Einsatz. Sie kommt mit einem frischen Glas Bellini und der auch aus wie ein Glas Bellini aussieht. Wir fragen nach, was sie gemacht hat. AN DIESER STELLE MÜSSEN ALLE SENIOR-OFFIZIERE UND MITARBEITER DER HAL-ZENTRALE AUFHÖREN ZU LESEN!!! Ich will nicht dass Hazel entlassen wird, aber die Geschichte ist zu gut! Sie meint: "Ich habe einen Pfirsisch aus der Kombüse geholt und ihn zwischen meinen Schenkeln ausgepresst!". Sieben Männer schweigen. Einer davon (ich) schafft es nicht das letzte Wort darauf zu haben. Hochachtung. Passiert äußerst selten!!! Und dann lachen alle (Gäste und Crew) gemeinsam und es kommen die Tränen vor Lachen. So geht man Reklamationen von Gästen um. Hier will ich meinen 25. Jahrestag verbringen: Menschen mit Humor, die mich zum Lachen bringen und mitlachen. Genau das ist, was ich will! Ich buche sofort meinen Tisch vom Pinnacle Grill zum Canaletto um. Uns gelingt es jedoch nicht unser Essen zu teilen, weil es viel zu lecker ist. Ich beschließe nichts abzugeben! Es kommt aber noch "schlimmer"! Unsere Kellnerin heißt Friscania. Und meine Mitarbeiterin in Frankfurt heißt Friska. Beide lachen genauso. Dieses Mal haben sie also keinen Container hintergeschickt wie bei der letzten Reise auf der QUEEN VICTORIA 2022, sondern das Lachen meiner Mitarbeiterin. Wir erleben eine tolle Zeit: mit den anderen Kerlen von der Friends of Dorothy-Runde, aber auch mit der Crew: Hazel, Liz, Friscania, Mark. Ein sehr schöner Abend geht zu Ende. Der Untergang des Abendlandes setzt ein: Italienische Dolce Vita auf einem holländisch-amerikanischen Schiff. Wie damals auf der VEENDAM 2019.
