Seetag/Day at Sea 07 auf der/on OOSTERDAM

Der letzte von sechs Seetagen an einem Stück. Und der beginnt gar nicht schön. So laufe ich auch her im Schiff meine Runden unentdecke ein paar Schätze. Später kommt aber wieder die Sonne passend zum Sonntag heraus.



The last of six sea days in a row. And it doesn't start well at all. So I walk my rounds in the ship discovering a few treasures. Later, however, the sun comes out again, suitable for Sunday.







Draußen ist alles nass.

Never a problem at Holland America: my special request for dragon fruit. I also try healthier alternatives, but this French Toast is for someone else.



Nie ein Problem bei Holland America: mein Special Request nach Drachenfrucht. Ich versuche mich auch an den gesünderen Alternativen, aber irgendwie ist dieses French Toast nicht meins.

In der Kabine ist alles in Ordnung.

WESTERDAM 2010: Es besteht ein ernstes Problem: für unseren mobilitätseingeschränkten Gast haben wir einen Rollstuhl bestellt und bezahlt. Der ist nicht auffindbar. Wir sollen solange den Gast im Lido "parken", bis dass der Rollstuhl auftaucht. Sie wollen solange keinen vom Schiff hergeben. Ich bin sauer und möchte den Hoteldirektor sprechen. Der lässt mir ausrichten: er hätte mit seinen 900 Crew-Mitgliedern genug zu tun und steht für Fragen von Gästen nicht zur Verfügung. Heute ist die Situation ganz anders: ich habe um ein Gespräch gebeten, und ich bekomme das Gespräch. Es macht ja keinen Sinn, frustriert in der Kabine zu hocken und dann nach der Reise im Fragebogen festzuhalten, wie schlecht alles war. Wenn man will, dass sich etwas verändert, dann hier und jetzt und nicht erst nach der Reise. Es gibt manche Anliegen, die kann der Hoteldirektor besser lösen, als jemand von der Rezeption. Ich suche nur mit diesem Anliegen den Hoteldirektor auf, weil ich eine schnelle Lösung brauche. Den Rest löst das Team an der Rezeption schon ziemlich gut. In vielen Fragen helfen mir Neel, Angela, Keithly, und die anderen sehr gut weiter. Manchmal weiß ich aber aus eigener Erfahrung, dass ein Shortcut besser ist, weil man sich dann schneller wieder auf das Relaxen konzentrieren kann.



WESTERDAM 2010: There is a serious problem: we ordered and paid for a wheelchair for our disabled guest. They can't find it. We should "park" the guest in the Lido until the wheelchair appears. They don't want to release one from the ship until then. I'm angry, and I want to speak to the hotel manager. He lets me know: he has enough to do with his 900 crew members and is not available for questions from guests. Today the situation is very different: I asked for a talk, and I got the talk. It makes no sense to sit frustrated in the cabin and then write down in the questionnaire after the trip how wrong everything was. If you want something to change, it's here and now, not just after the voyage. There are some concerns that the hotel manager can solve better than someone from the reception. I am only contacting the hotel manager with this concern because I need a quick solution. The team at the reception handles the rest well. Neel, Angela, Keithly, and the others are accommodating with many questions. But sometimes I know from experience that a shortcut is better because you can concentrate on relaxing again more quickly.

At the Explorations Bar, things are now running smoother. I always get my coffee served with sugar on the seat, and Raynaldo fits me very nicely at the bar. I must have a stroop waffle to "melt" over the coffee cup.



An der Explorations Bar läuft es jetzt auch runder. Ich bekomme meinen Kaffee immer mit Zucker am Platz serviert. An der Bar werde ich durch Raynaldo sehr nett bedient. Ich muss doch mal eine Stroopwaffel haben, die ich über der Kaffeetasse zum "Schmelzen" bringe.









Nach dem es ja morgens gar nicht gut aussah, entwickelte sich der Tag noch wunderschön. Zeit auch für ein paar weitere Selfies. Zum Glück gibt es hier eine Stelle, bei denen ich mich nicht herunterbücken muss, um ein Selfie mit dem Rettungsring zu machen.



The day developed beautifully after it didn't look good in the morning. Time for a few more selfies too. Luckily there's a spot where I don't have to bend down to take a selfie with the life preserver.

Let's see what the Lido Market has to offer at noon. A bit skeptical: Ready-made instant noodle cups are getting worse and worse with Holland America. What does Rudi Sodamin say about that?



Mal gucken, was der Lido Market mittags zu bieten hat. Etwas skeptisch: Fertige Instant-Nudel-Becher... das wird ja auch immer schlimmer bei Holland America. Was sagt denn Rudi Sodamin dazu?









Zufällig habe ich am Vorabend mitbekommen, dass wohl ein paar Tische für ein gemeinsames Mittagessen der Friends-of-Dorothy-Gruppe reserviert wurden. Aber irgendwie hat uns keiner Bescheid gegeben. Also habe ich die anderen informiert. So essen wir gemeinsam an verschiedenen Tischen zwar, aber wir genießen doch den Sonntagsbrunch, den es allerdings nur einem der zwei Sonntage dieser Reise gibt.



I overheard the night before that a few tables had been reserved for the Friends of Dorothy group to have lunch together. But somehow, we are still waiting for someone to inform us. So I told the others. So we eat together at different tables but still enjoy the Sunday brunch, which is only available on one of the two Sundays of this trip.

We take the chance to have dinner with the others from the Friends of Dorothy group again. But I have the impression, although the seven days on board are not over: I already know the pork belly - as a special meal for Club Orange members. Is that an increase in value? I still like the food. I'd like to know if this will all be repeated in the second week.



Wir nutzen nochmals die Chance mit den anderen aus der Friends-of-Dorothy-Runde zum Abend zu essen. Irgendwie habe ich aber den Eindruck, obwohl die sieben Tage an Bord nicht herum sind: den Schweinebauch kenne ich schon - als Sonderessen für Club Orange-Mitglieder. Ist das wirklich eine Wertsteigerung. Noch gefällt mir das Essen. Ich bin mal gespannt, ob sich das jetzt in der 2. Woche alles wiederholt.

Wir gehen nochmals zu Evolution: Motown. Die 2. Show mit anderen Liedern. Die Stimmung ist heiß. Die "älteren" Damen haben sich jetzt Plätze in der 1. Reihe erkämpft. Ich warte darauf, dass sie ihre Angora-Mieder-Spitzen-Wäsche mit Hüfthalter auspacken und auf die Bühne werfen. Die sind ja noch schlimmer als die Teenies, als Take That auseinander gegangen sind. Aber warum sollten alte Leute nicht auch ihren Spaß haben? Ich bin ja such schon alt. Wahrscheinlich fühle ich mich deswegen bei Holland America wohl.



We go again to Evolution: Motown — the 2nd show with different songs. The mood is hot. The "older" ladies have now fought for places in the 1st row. I'm waiting for them to unwrap their Angora bodice-lace lingerie with girdles and throw them on stage. They're even worse than the teenagers when Take That broke up. But why shouldn't older adults have fun too? I'm already old, and that's probably why I feel good about Holland America.
