Tag/Day 0.3 Pre-Cruise auf der/on WESTERDAM in Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Es gibt unzählige Anbieter von Grachtenrundfahrten. Drei sind bekannter, weil sie direkt am Hauptbahnhof Fahrten anbieten: Holland International, Lovers und Kooij. Kooij fiel durch seinen günstigen Preis von 8.00 EUR für eine Stunde auf. Allerdings fuhren sie abends nicht mehr von hier ab. Bei Lovers konnte man uns zwar sagen, dass es Touren auf Deutsch gibt, aber ob zur nächsten Stunde auch eine angeboten wird, sollten wir den Kapitän fragen. Wir wollten nicht 50 Minuten warten, um die Antwort des Kapitäns abzuwarten. Bei Holland International erklärte man uns, dass immer vier Sprachen an Bord angeboten: Niederländisch, Englisch sowie zwei Sprachen der meistvertretenen Nationen an Bord. Das war uns zu vage aber zumindest ehrlich. Wir hatten uns auch mit den Angeboten von Amsterdam Canal Cruises und Blue Boat Company befasst, die in der Nähe unseres ursprünglich gebuchten Hotels abgefahren wären.



There are multiple suppliers of canal cruises. Three are more known as they offer tours directly from central station. Holland International, Lovers and Rooij which attracted our attention due to their cheap price of 8.00 hours for a one hour tour. But they did not offer tours in the evening out of here. Lovers could only tell us that tours in German are available in general but if the next cruise should have it in German we should ask the Captain. But we did not want to wait 50 minutes to check out the Captain's answer. Holland International was honestly enough to explain that there are always four languages on board: Dutch, English and two further languages for the two largest foreign nations on board. This was too vague for us. We also checked the offers of Amsterdam Canal Cruises and Blue Boat Company as they start their tours close to the hotel we originally booked.

So we called at short term notice Amsterdamse Watertaxi Centrale



Daher haben wir kurzerhand bei der Amsterdamse Watertaxi Centrale angerufen.

Im Hotel hatten wir im Vorbeigehen ein Schild eines Sonderangebotes gelesen 1 Stunde = 100 EUR. Nach dem sichergestellt war, dass der Kapitän auch deutsch spricht, haben wir das Angebot lieber in Anspruch genommen.



Just in hotel we saw the display that they offer a special for 100 EUR per hour. After we made clear that a Captain with German language skills was available we prefered to book them.

Der Zustieg erfolgt von vorne.

We told the Captain that we will stay at Smits Koffiehuis on the terrasse and that was the place he collected us.



Wir hatten dem Kapitän gesagt, dass wir die Wartezeit überbrücken und auf der Terasse von Smits Koffiehuis überbrücken und dort holt er uns auch ab.

Alternativ gibt es übrigens noch die Verkehre von CanalBus, die auch Ho-Ho-Dienste anbieten - nur auf dem Wasser. U. a. wird auch direkt das Cruise Terminal bedient.



As alternative you may also use the services of CanalBus which also offer HoHo-services - just on the water. They also call the cruise terminal directly.

As I stayed all the time outside and explainations was only done inside: No idea what I saw all the time...



Da ich die ganze Zeit draußen stand und die Erklärungen nur drinnen gegeben wurde: Keine Ahnung, was ich alles gesehen habe.











All "predijuces" were presented: canal bridges and bikes...



Alle "Vorurteile" wurden bedient: Grachtenbrücken und Fahrräder...

Coffeeshops (Kaffeeläden) - was immer man darunter verstehen mag und dort angeboten wird...

I remember that I read a discussion in cruisecritic.com-Forum about this hotel... NH grand Hotel Krasnapolsky... but I forgot the reasons...



Irgendwie wurde dieser Tage im cruisecritic.com-Forum über dieses Hotel heftig diskutiert... NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky... aber die Gründe sind mir entfallen.

Und China-Town, das nahtlos übergeht.

I love the street-coffee places-culture...



Die Straßencafé-Kultur... richtig schön.

Und die "freundliche" Bevölkerung, die uns hier mit Wasserpistole "angreift"...



And the "friendly" population which "attackted" us with a water gun.

That was quite narrow.



Hier wurde das richtig eng.

Bevor wir hier durch kamen, mussten wir doch etwa 15 Minuten dort warten, weil gilt, dass das größere Schiff die Vorfahrt hat.



Before we could pass we had to wait for about 15 minutes because all the larger boats had priority.





Unfortunately there is not a sport boat license system like in Germany. For my understanding there was no other explanation that the operator made some loops around themselves and stopped the canal cruise boat before he found out how it works with this kind of engines.



Leider gibt es in den Niederlanden keine vergleichbare Sportbootführerschein-Regelung wie in Deutschland. Anders kann ich mir nicht erklären, dass das Schlauchboot hier, das Grachtenrundfahrtboot stoppen konnte, weil es sich ein paar Runden im Kreis drehte, bevor der Lenker endlich herausbekam, wie man es lenkt.

Langsam setzt die Dunkelheit ein.

It was nice to see the houseboats.



Das war auch schön, so den Hausbooten reinzugucken.

Leider war die Magere Brücke offen, da sie wegen Bauarbeiten gesperrt war. Schade.



Unfortunately the Skinny Bridge was open as she was closed due to construction works.

But you have enough nice substitutes.



Aber es gab ja genügend Ersatz.

Next time I should try to get an offer for 100 USD to stay in the Amstel Hotel.



Das nächste Mal muss ich mal versuchen für 100 USD im Amstel Hotel unterzukommen.











Although the other was boat was smaller. Our Captain did not want the other boat to return 3/4 of the distance back.



Obwohl das andere Boot kleiner war: unser Kapitän wollte es dem anderen Boot nicht zumuten 3/4 der Strecke zurückzufahren...

Es ging dann Neapolitanisch weiter: Hupend unter diese Brücke...

Typical students... more and more bikes if you are in the Univercity district.



Typisch Studenten... erkennt man an der zunehmenden Zahl der Fahrräder im Universitätsviertel.

Unser Kapitän hat uns direkt einen Block weiter von Spui abgesetzt, weil wir dort zu Abend essen wollten. Wegen der vielen Wartezeit hat er jedoch das Taximeter schon früher abgestellt. Insgesamt war es eine sehr schöne Fahrt für eine Stunde.



We asked the Captain to deliver us around the Spui district as we wanted to have dinner there. Due to the long waiting time he was fair enough to stop the meter earlier. It was a very nice tour we got in an hour.
