Tag/Day 6.5 auf der/on ZAANDAM in Sihanoukville (Siem Reap - Phnom Penh), Kambodscha/Cambodia

Als wir ankommen... gähnende Leere. Kein Wasser, keine kalten Handtücher - gar nichts... Wir waren ca. 1 1/2 Stunden vor Ablegen wieder da und nicht last minute...



When we arrived... just nothing. No water, no cold towels - just nothing... we arrived 1 1/2 hours before set sail and not last minute.

This little side blow must be... Koper, Slovenia... NORWEGIAN JADE... not 95F but maybe 85F... Water and a cold refreshing towel... Why is this no standard with Holland America? Or did I always missed it?



Der kleine Seitenhieb muss sein... Koper... NORWEGIAN JADE... bestimmt keine 35°C, aber 25°C... Wasser und ein kaltes erfrischendes Handtuch... Wieso ist das eigentlich kein Standard bei Holland America? Oder ging es immer an mir vorbei?

Drüben gab es noch Verkaufsstände. Aber wir wollten bloß noch an Bord.



There were few sales stands. But all we wanted was returning to the ship.

Unusual: the crew need to be back the same time like the guests.



Ungewöhnlich: die Crew musste zur gleichen Zeit zurück sein wie die Gäste.

Wieder eine Einladung...



Again an invitation...

I still had no idea whose invitation it was. Because I even had no time to see the toilet and wash my hands before they already knocked at our doors to collect our passports but without releasing a receipt. So everytime later we tried to collect a passport we had to explain why we had no receipt anymore and had to confirm our receipt manually. Only five minutes later I would had taken them back to the front desk. I promised them to do so.



Ich habe aber immer noch keine Ahnung, welche Einladung das ist. Denn ich hatte nicht mal Zeit, auf Toilette zu gehen und die Hände zu waschen, schon wurden unsere Pässe eingesammelt, allerdings ohne Quittung, was dazu führte, dass wir jedes Mal erklären mussten, warum wir keine Quittung mehr besaßen und immer manuell quittieren mussten. Fünf Minuten später hätte ich die Pässe selbst zur Rezeption gebracht. Das hatte ich denen ja versprochen.

Endlich kommen wir dazu uns mal umzusehen: Der Zoologische Garten ist gewachsen (Wir hatten darum gebeten, dass keine Tiere während unserer Abwesenheit entfernt wurden...)



Finally we had a chance to see around. Our Zoological Garden growed (We asked for that they should not take any animals away while were off the ship...)

As promised we got all daily programs to check what we missed. And our confirmation that we paid the deposit for our next HAL-cruise.



Wie versprochen sind alle Programme da, damit wir gucken können, was wir verpasst haben. Und die Bestätigung, dass wir wieder für die nächste Kreuzfahrt mit HAL angezahlt haben.

Mein Douglas Ward ist zurück und unsere Wäsche.



My Douglas Ward was back and our laundry.

It was the invitation for the Mariner Society Brunch at the 3rd day at sea.



Die Einladung ist für den Mariner Society Brunch am 3. Seetag.

Was ich jetzt erst entdeckt habe... Es gibt sogar ein Lautsprechersystem in der Kabine. So können wir auch die Ansagen in der Kabine hören, wenn wir wollen.



What I discovered now... We had a speaker-system in our cabin. So we could also hear all announcements in our cabin if we liked to.

They exchanged one animal... Do they place them from one cabin to the next?



Ein Tier wurde dann ausgetauscht... Werden die eigentlich reihum zwischen den Kabinen weitergereicht?

Und das ist übrigens einer unserer beiden Stewards Abdul, der uns 14 Tage lang gut sich um uns gekümmert hat.



By the way that was one of our two stewards Abdul who took well care of us for two weeks.

It could be worse for us... They had not finished the drying yet.



Uns hätte es auch schlimmer treffen können... Die waren mit dem Trocknen immer noch nicht fertig.

Ich gucke mir von oben das Ablegen an.



I watched from the top deck the set sail.

Good Bye Cambodia: we will come again.



Und auf Wiedersehen Kambodscha: da wird es uns wieder hinziehen.

Eine Kleinigkeit wollte ich noch essen. Nachmittags sind nur der Deli und draußen am Pooldeck Grill und Büffet offen. Ferner kann man sich Kleinigkeiten am Exploiration Café holen oder den Zimmerservice bestellen. Während ich warte, kommuniziert eine Deutsche mit dem Herr Gott und beschwert sich, warum es so lange dauert. Dann beschwert sie sich, warum der Koch so langsam ist. Und dann beschwert sie sich wieder darüber, dass es so lange dauert. Ihr Mann kommt hinzu und sie meint, dass der Koch so langsam sei. Irgendwie fühlte ich mich genötigt die Partei des Kochs zu ergreifen und fragte in Deutsch nach, ob Sie unter Zeitdruck stünde und Verpflichtungen hätte. Ihr ist es unangenehm, dass ich alles verstanden habe, was sie gesagt hätte. Sie meinte nur kleinlaut, dass sie Hunger hätte. Ich zeige ihr auf das Angebot, bei dem sie sofort zugreifen kann, statt sich am Sandwich-Stand anzustellen und sich zu wundern, warum ein warmes Sandwich so lange dauert. Ihr Mann entschuldigt sich für sie. Zum Glück hat der Koch nichts verstanden.



I wanted to have a bite. In the afternoon only the Deli and the outdoor Pooldeck-Grill and Buffet were open. Furthermore you could get a snack at the Exploiration Café or you can use the room service. While I was waiting a German woman communicated with our Lord and she complained why it would took so long. Then she complainted why the cook was so slow. And then she complainted again why it took so long. Her husband joined and she told him that the cook was so slow. Somehow I felt the pressure to take over the interests of the cook and asked in German whether she was somehow under time pressure or had some obligations. She felt unconfortable that someone understood what she said. So she said meekly that she was hungry. I showed her the offer which she had direct access without queuing up the Sandwich-Stand and waiting so long for a warm sandwich. Her husband apologied for her. I was glad that the cook did not understand a word.

I accepted the waiting time to get a yummy freshly prepared Croque Monsieur like I wanted. So he got some tip from me.



Ich habe gerne für ein leckeres, frisches Croque Monsieur nach meinen Vorstellungen gewartet. Dafür bekam er auch ein Trinkgeld.

Etwas Bread Pudding musste ich doch mal probieren. Und eine Lemonade.

My way took me via the Pinnacle Grill.



Mein Weg führt mich am Pinnacle Grill vorbei.

Ich wollte noch schnell ein paar Bilder von dem tollen Team machen, das mich ein paar Tage zuvor verwöhnt hat.



I wanted to have few shots of the excellent team which gave us such a special treatment a couple of days before.





Although I was already on board for a couple of days I still discovered new things.



Obwohl ich schon so lange an Bord bin: ich entdecke immer neues.

Und endlich habe es geschafft: als ich an das Exploiration Café komme, bekomme ich schon meinen Becher Eiswürfel hingestellt. Nur noch den Teebeutel muss ich mir aussuchen.



And finally I made it: when I came to the Exploiration Café I got a cup of ice cubes. The only thing I had to do was selecting the tea-bag.

Soon we had to go to for dinner. With a big surprise we found out that they had German menu cards now. On WESTERDAM we did not get them.



Es geht auch schon bald zum Abendessen. Mit großer Überraschung stellen wir fest: es gibt doch deutsche Menükarten. Die gab es auf der WESTERDAM nicht.

Und heute Abend (Tag 6!!!) lernen wir wieder dazu: Es gibt eine Barkarte für offene Getränke, für die die normalen Kellner zuständig sind. Der Weinkellner ist nur für Flaschenweine zuständig.



And this night (Day 6!!!) we still learned new facts: There was a bar menu for beverages by glass which were handled by the regular waiters. The wine stewards were only in charge for bottled wine.

BJ and Guenther joined us for dinner and so we exchanged what we experienced and what we missed.



BJ und Guenther essen heute Abend wieder mit uns und wir tauschen aus, was wir so in den letzten zwei Tagen erlebt bzw. verpasst haben.

Und mit Kaffee stoßen sie an, nachdem sie es aufgegeben haben, nach einem Espresso Macchiato zu fragen... Da wir einfach kaputt waren, ging es früh zu Bett und wir freuten uns auf einen Tag auf See.



And they cheered with coffee after they gave up to ask for an Espresso Macchiato... As we were just tired we went early to bed and were looking forward for the next day at sea.
