Meine Mutter meinte schon beim Einzug in die Kabine, dass alles irgendwie sehr staubig sei. Nun haben wir den Beweis: Übernacht muss wohl die Klimaanlage so viel Staub ausgeworfen haben, dass alle schwarzen Geräte bei uns voll mit Staub sind. So schnell können die Stewards gar nicht putzen, wie Staub aus der Klimaanlage gepustet wird. Und ich bin gegen Hausstaub allergisch. Reklamationen helfen wenig. Wir haben nicht den Eindruck, dass irgendjemand bei uns in der Kabine war, um den Filter auszutauschen. Unser Kreppband ist nämlich unberührt. Bei der Gelegenheit: die Klimaanlage ist nicht in der Lage die Temperatur vernünftig zu halten. Um eine Stufe zu halten, schaltet sie sich meistens abwechselnd auf heizen und kühlen - wenn sie es schafft.



When my mother moved to the cabin she had the impression that everything was very dusty. Now we could see ourselves: Overnight there must be so much dust coming out of the air condition that our black electric appliances were full of dust. So fast our stewards cannot clean how fast the air condition is working. Reporting did not help. We did not have the impression some came to our cabin to exchange the filter. Our tape was still untouched. By the way: the air condition is unable to keep the temperature so also setting a certain level: it heats and it cools and it heats again all the time to try to keep the temperature - sometimes.

Kaum sind wir an Bord und schon wollen sie uns wieder loswerden. Wir sollen uns am 2. Tag Gedanken dazu machen, wie wir das Schiff verlassen wollen.

Leider schickt er den Gruß nicht an mich, sondern an Frau und Herrn Schmitt. Leider weiss ich nicht, ob Brunos Eltern gemeint sind oder ob ich als Ehefrau von Bruno gehandelt werde.

Vom Innen-Design finde ich auch die WESTERDAM her, absolut gelungen.



I loved the interior design of WESTERDAM very much.

The beautiful flowers in front of the suites attracted my attention.

When we had breakfast I discovered that some insects bited me. But I guess it happened already in Rotterdam and discontinued to think about the other options.



Beim Frühstück entdecke ich, dass ich mehrere Insektenbisse habe. Ich vermute aber, dass es wohl schon in Rotterdam passiert ist. Über die andere Möglichkeit mag ich gar nicht nachdenken.

Es glitzert überall auf den Sitzen. Werden die eigentlich nie gereinigt oder wird hier so häufig gefeiert, dass es sich nicht lohnt, sie mal gründlich zu reinigen???



As it was glittering all over the seats. Do not they clean them or are they celebrating something so often that it would not make too much sense to clean them???

It was always nicely set for breakfast. Why should we have breakfast in the Lido Café?



Wie immer toll eingedeckt. Warum sollte ich also im Lido Café frühstücken wollen?

Kein Problem bei HAL, was ein Problem bei Royal Caribbean ist: Cranberry-Saft und grüner Tee zum Frühstück.

Great - but CUNARD is here unbeatable.



Gut - aber da ist Cunard nun einmal unschlagbar.

Aber viel fehlt nicht mehr.

Es fehlt eigentlich nur ein Überzug für den Griff, damit man sich nicht die Finger verbrennt.

Egg Benedict. Mir hat ja jemand geschrieben, dass es im Lido Café noch mehr Variationen gibt, aber ich bin eben nicht der SB-Restaurant-Freund.



Egg Benedict. Somebody wrote me that you get more variations in the Lido Café but I am not a friend of self-service-restaurant.

When we tried to push the plate more inside I found out that the reverse side of the plate was full of Sauce Hollandaise so that I need to wash my hands before I can continue to eat.



Als ich den Teller etwas weiter reinschieben will, stelle ich fest, dass die Unterseite voll mit Sauce Hollandaise ist und ich mir erst mal die Hände waschen muss.

Die Milchkanne ist nicht besonders voll, so dass es nur für einmal reicht. Als wir nach mehr Milch fragen, kommt die Frage, ob es noch etwas, gibt was wir brauchen. Es war nicht die Frage die mich störte, sondern die Art, wie er fragte und mich doch sehr direkt an den türkischen Kellner auf der CELEBRITY EQUINOX erinnerte. Vielleicht lässt er uns eine Inventarliste da und dann können wir künftig jeden Morgen prüfen, wie es sein sollte und ihm dann sagen, was noch alles fehlt.



The can with milk was not very full so you can use it only for one cup. When we asked for more milk we got the question if there should be anything else what we need. It was not the question which made my upset but the way he was asking and which reminded me very much to the Turkish waiter on CELEBRITY EQUINOX. Next time we should have an inventory list and we could double-check the availability in future every morning and can tell him what else was missing.

We ordered some toast with our eggs. But as it was not served with the eggs we asked again. It came when I was nearly finished...



Wir hatten direkt Toast zu den Eierspeisen bestellt. Als es nicht gleichzeitig serviert wird, fragen wir nochmals an. Es kommt dann, als ich fast bereits fertig bin...

Da es kein Brioche gibt, dachte ich, dass es ein Softbrötchen wäre. Das war es auch, nur leider voller Rosinen. Einer der Maître meinte, dass ich ruhig den Wunsch äußern dürfte, wenn ich etwas nicht oder ganz besonders gerne mag und mehr möchte... Vielleicht picken sie mir ja die Rosinen vorher raus...



As there was no Brioche available I thought that this might be a soft roll. It was one but only totally filled with raisins. One of the Maître offered to say if I dislike something or if I would like to have some extra which I like very much... Maybe they will pick out the raisins for me...

That was why I wanted to have a croissant: when I saw and stopped a steward with a tray who passing by and asked for a croissant I got the answer: "No croissant!!!" and he walked away. The next person I stopped was an Assistant Maître d'Hotel who got me a croissant immediately. No comparison to the experience we had the last night.



Daher wollte ich noch ein Croissant haben: als ich einen Steward, der zufällig mit einem Gebäcktablett vorbeikommt, anhalte und nach einem Croissant frage, bekomme ich die Antwort: "No croissant!!!" und läuft weiter. Der nächste, der von mir dann angehalten wird, ist dann ein Assistant Maître d'Hotel, der mir sofort ein Croissant besorgt. Kein Vergleich zum Service vom letzten Abend, der nahezu perfekt war.

Irgendwie geben die sich auf der WESTERDAM bezüglich der Blumendekoration mehr Mühe als die anderen, die wir bislang kennen.



Somehow they spent more efforts on EURODAM regarding the flower decoration than on other ships we knew so far.

At the time of closing the queue in front of the restaurant was quite long. Maître d'Hotel Robertus explained some days later that he accepts every guest until the last minute of closing. My parents went on EURODAM and told me that they did not have the impression that it was not also good in Lido-Café either. They set up the restaurant service that the crew stopped working with the closure of the restaurant and leave with the guests so they started to take out the food of the buffets very early. Mrs Pannen reported as well that she had the feeling that you cannot get any food after 19.00 hrs and the buffets were nearly empty although the restaurant should close at 20.00 hrs. From my own experience on EURDOAM I can only say that they tried to keep us away from the Rembrandt-Restaurant at 12.55 hrs although 13.00 hrs was official closing. I just have the impression that there is an improvement of communication requred so that the guest and the crew know and act appropiate to the company's policy. Obviously it is a little like gambling if you get food or not.



Zur Schließzeit des Restaurants ist die Schlange noch recht lang. Der Maître d'Hotel Robertus erklärt mir einige Tage später, dass er jeden Gast annimmt, der bis zur letzten Minute der Schließung erscheint. Meine Eltern waren damals auf der EURODAM der Meinung, dass das wohl nicht für das Lido-Restaurant gilt. Dort ist der Betrieb wohl so eingerichtet, dass die Belegschaft zur Schließung des Restaurants auch Feierabend hat und daher mit dem Abbau des Büffets immer sehr zeitig beginnen. Auch Frau Pannen hatte den Eindruck, dass es um 19.00 Uhr oben nichts mehr gab, obwohl die Schließung erst um 20.00 Uhr sei. Damals auf der EURODAM wollte man uns auch schon 12.55 Uhr nicht mehr ins Rembrandt Restaurant lassen, ob die Schließung erst um 13.00 Uhr ist. Daher habe ich immer wieder den Eindruck, dass irgendwie die Kommukation verbesserungswürdig sei, damit Gäste und Personal sich darauf einstellen können, wie die Policy ist. So ist das anscheinend ein Glücksspiel, ob man etwas bekommt oder nicht.
