Love at the first sight - Cruising for adults ("stolen") - Finally you get the goody normally only kids get somewhere - That is all I love Holland America Line for. And it might sound stupid: You can experience a wonderful cruise on a small ship like RYNDAM too.

Tag/Day 8.1 auf der/on ZAANDAM in Phu My (Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt/City), Vietnam

 border=0

This morning we started quite early. Somehow I need to find a way how I get the multi-power-outlet-strip with the Holland-America-Logo home. This was again a little difference between Holland America and others: a workstation in the Internet-Café for guests with their own PC who need some electric power.

These were table-legs.

Das sind übrigens die Beine eines Tisches.

Und deutschsprachige Bücher gab es auch.

There were few German books.

As we had to pay all shore excursions in Vietnam in USD I cashed few travellers check at the front desk for free. For this tour I could make a deposit in Germany on a German account in EUR.

With the front desk I had luck this time. Everyone was nice, helpful and comptent.

That was no sign for blind guests but copper plates to avoid the transfer of germs.

That was not my day as we need to be up so early in the morning.

The singing birds and the tropical waterfall from the tape made me nervous. When a Maître asked if there was anything else they could get us, my answer was: a gun and a cat - or something else what eat birds... Who wanted to be 06.30 hrs in a tropical rain forrest? The next table were starting to shout out loud because of my remark.

I asked for a cold cut plate which was not on the menu and I got it. So far my life was fine.

The ship berthed so nicely that I need to take pictures of the ship first.

When we arrived in the morning it was clear: there was nothing.

Really nothing.

Gar nichts.

BJ and Guenther asked if this might be our bus since there was no tour-guide showing up.

I was thinking to put some black pictures in the blog but since bad experiences are also part of my experiences and you can learn how to make it better the next time. The bad started that I could not connect my phone with the Vietnamese network because the tourguide should call me and tell me where to find him. Anyhow nobody was there at 07.30 hrs with a sign HeinBloed. Bruno's phone worked although both of us are customers of German telecom. I called the agency in Hanoi which arranged everything for me und told them that the tourguide should use Bruno's phone number. But no call. So we found out that the tour guide could not make any international calls. So we called in a triangle. I booked a boat to Saigon (for me it is still Saigon). I noted something cruising around our ZAANDAM but could not berth. We were told that our tour-guide must be around. Bruno and Guenther went to the wall of the quay to check for the boat.

From the back somebody was running and it was our tour-guide.

We should follow him... 5 minutes... He must be in Southern Italy before. Due to my parents and the heat it was 15 minutes.

Between the container-bridges. We should wait here because they need to apply for the permission and it was Sunday... They knew for eight months that we arrived on a Sunday... They had eight months time to apply for the permission. We were told that Vietnamese offices do not handle applications prior to the day of use... and if the office was closed it was our unluck.

The Port Security was quite surprised to find so many civilians between the cranes and the loading operation.

Well - let us see it positively: when will you ever have a chance again to be so close to a terminal during loading operation... But this was not our boat.

But the white one there. It was a speed-canoe and we should be in one hour in Saigon but where is the pier?

And how should we get behind the fence where the boat docked?

Do they really expect to walk behind the fence on the quay? They do not mean it seriously.

Then we should walk over the rocks and climb into the boat. I was nuts and force the tour-guide to arrange a car asap. He refused to cooperate. I walked alone back to the ship and got a vehicle. It was the last one and I would have paid any price. It was only 350.00 USD for the day. If he would go and negotiated himself  he could explain that a car per day was only 150.00 USD. But he did not.

Instead he wanted that we all use the self-build ladder. No industrial norm - No technical aprroval - No safety tests: just few wooden planks fixed together with some nails and ropes.

And then we should go down to the boat. The Port Security only waited that we touch the fence to offend against Vietnamese security laws. But anyhow we would have been taken directly to a hospital but a jail: how should have reached the boat without being hurt. Our tour-guide was totally overstrained with this situation.

    Aussteigen? Außderdem sehe ich kein
    Tau-Befestigung, geschweige Zaandam
    ist noch weg vom Land...

    Oder habe ich mich geirrt?

Schöne Berichte wie immer, ich verfolge gespannt
    auf Eurer Vietnam-Berichte.

    Gruß
